We invite you to join us this Sunday!
"The Mystery and Misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit"
Pentecost is this Sunday, a celebration of the greatest and most enduring gift the Church has ever been given - the Holy Spirit. Sadly, many church people don’t appreciate this gift or even look for it, and with good reason. There have been abuses of power, weird displays of charismatic gifts, fear of a “ghost,” confusion about the mystery of the Trinity, and several other similar misunderstandings.
But the Holy Spirit is God and he is a gift to us! Have you accepted this gift and welcomed him as such? Do you rejoice when you see him at work? Do you know him? Here’s a good question to ask: Do you refer to the Holy Spirit as “it” or “he.” One is biblical and the other is not. He is a person and he is at work in and around you. Jesus says, “It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you” (John 16:7). Pentecost is the annual celebration of that sending.
The Holy Spirit came 2000 years ago and has never left us. Chapter 16 of John’s gospel describes his ministry in detail. When we learn what he does, we start to see God everywhere around us. Come learn how to not only see God at work, but also join him in that work.
